Well, it’s been 10 weeks since the end of our last extended road trip. A lot has happened for us this summer, both good and sad. But now, it’s on the road we go! Seven weeks on the road. New truck. New rig. Looking forward to exploring State and National Park in South Dakota, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado and points between.

Our first destination is Badlands National Park in South Dakota.

We see a lot of interesting things on the highways of America. These are some of the largest tires we’ve seen. I wonder where they’re bound?

The Dignity Statue greets you as you approach the Missouri River near Chamberlain, South Dakota. It was erected in 2016, so for many, it is quite a surprise to come upon. This dramatic monument is dedicated to the courage, bravery and perseverance of the Dakota and Lakota Indian tribes.

“She casts her peaceful gaze across the waters of the Missouri River. During the day, the South Dakota wind brushes the diamonds in her star quilt, causing blue shades to twinkle in the sunlight. At night, she stands illuminated and strong. She is Dignity.”

As we did on our Spring trip through the Carolinas, we hope to learn much about the history and cultures of the Native American tribes.

The Badlands offer some of the most dramatic and unique topography in our Land!

Celebrating our 36th anniversary on the road. Life with Nina has been well lived!

The view from our campsite in Interior, South Dakota.

After more than 250 miles of billboard reminders that Wall Drug Store was up ahead, I can say we came, we saw, we left.

More to come as we travel on to Custer State Park in Western South Dakota.

Ramble on!

Mike
